California Personal Therapy

Individual Struggles

The world is a stressful place and sometimes you need help to overcome personal issues.
I can help you.

Anxiety
Anxiety disorders are the most common mental illness in the U.S., affecting 40 million adults in the United States age 18 and older, or 18.1% of the population every year. Anxiety disorders are highly treatable, yet only 36.9% of those suffering receive treatment. You can get relief from the anxiety that plagues you. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is highly effective in the treatment of all types of anxiety disorders including Generalized Anxiety, Specific Phobias, Panic Disorder, and Social Anxiety.

Depression
16.2 million adults in the United States—equaling 6.7 percent of all adults in the country—have experienced a major depressive episode in the past year. The majority of adults suffer 10-12 times longer than necessary by not getting treatment for their depression. There are years of research to prove the efficacy of depression treatments. You do not need to suffer from depression alone. There are proven treatments for depression and ways to prevent it from re-occurring in the future as well.

Low-Self Esteem
Low self-esteem is problematic in the workplace and in interpersonal relationships for a variety of reasons. People notice low self-esteem and may make negative assumptions about people who exhibit these behaviors. Self-esteem is a learned belief shaped by events in our lives. You can reclaim control of your life by improving your self-esteem and self-empowerment. Empirical evidence supports therapy as a means for improving self-esteem and enhancing satisfaction in relationships and the workplace.

Grief
Grief is triggered by a loss and is the same as mourning.  People have different thresholds for grief and it can be triggered by the loss of a loved one, a pet, a job, a relationship, a treasured item or your health.  It is a subjective experience and oftentimes a very lonely and painful one.  It is important to make sure that you work through all five stages of grief (Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression and Acceptance) in order to be able to move forward out of grief without carrying a lot of emotional baggage with you, or unresolved grief.  No two people grieve or feel the same way.  I can help you navigate your way through the grieving process with compassion, patience and tools designed to help you heal and stop hurting so much.

Panic Disorder
One of the primary symptoms of panic disorder are panic attacks.  Panic attacks make you feel like something is catastrophically wrong with your body oftentimes.  Symptoms of a panic attack may include racing thoughts, a pounding heart, sweating, numbness or tingling in your limbs, inability to sit still/agitation, hyperventilating, crying or inability to focus on anything other than what is happening to your body, a fear of dying or that you are having a heart attack, a sense of losing control and a strong desire to just make the symptoms stop.  After having one panic attack people oftentimes develop anticipatory anxiety or fear of having another panic attack.  Cognitive behavioral tools to address the underlying causes of anxiety are the gold standard for treating anxiety and panic disorders and are very effective at helping you regain control of your body and your mind.

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
OCD can present in a variety of ways and is not all about hoarding or hand washing as they portray on TV.  OCD is about obsessions or fears about any number of things including germs, needing something and not having enough of it, controlling anxiety, stopping something “bad” from happening and the compulsions or behaviors we engage in to prevent the thing we obsess about from happening.  It is a loop of thoughts and behaviors designed to make us feel better but about which we often are ashamed or feel imprisoned by because we are unable to stop them.  OCD is a form of an anxiety disorder and is highly treatable with tools tailored to your anxious/fearful thoughts and the behaviors you engage in to minimize your anxiety.
